There’s a lot to learn before you’re ready to break out in the business world; you need to be knowledgeable in everything from analyzing markets to preparing presentations to taking a company public if you want to make an impact in the industry.
With that said, there’s no hard requirement of getting an MBA in order to start your career in finance. Sure, having a degree helps, but unlike a law degree or a doctorate, it’s not a necessity to have a professional degree to at least get into trade, management, or venture capitalism.
If you’re looking to sharpen your finance knowledge before diving in, Udemy is currently offering a course just for you. Chris Haroun has guest lectured and advised at McGill and Columbia Universities, respectively, worked at Goldman Sachs, and authored “101 Crucial Lessons They Don’t Teach You in Business School,” which was recently named by Forbes magazine as “1 of 6 books that all entrepreneurs need to read right now.”
Haroun has taken the lessons he’s taught at universities in the past and condensed them into one course that he describes as “an entire MBA.” Through the class students will learn macro and micro economics, how to value companies, and the basics of how investment banks and management consulting firms work. In addition to the nuts and bolts, Haroun aims to teach his students about the importance of personal connections and professional presentation: how to identify and pitch venture capitalists and communicate your ideas clearly and concisely.
The class, which usually runs for $200, is currently available for just $10 for any budding business students out there. This exclusive deal is only active for a limited time. If you want to gain a foundational knowledge of the business world before setting off to start a company, find funding, and eventually go public, this might be a good place to start.
